Coral Manton

I’m an interdisciplinary artist, technologist, curator and researcher specialising in shared virtual reality experiences, game development, digital heritage and data visualisation. I lecture in Digital and Game Design and am a developer/research at i-DAT/The i-DAT Collective. I’m currently working on PhD research prototyping data-driven visualisations of networked cultural collections with Birmingham Museums Trust, where I previously worked as part of the Exhibitions and Curatorial Team, specialising in interactivity.

As a woman and feminist employed in technology, I work to promote female participation and explore issues surrounding women in games, code and online culture. I have consulted on digitisation and data play projects for Feminist Archive, and promote female coding through live coding at Algoraves and Digital Catapult events. I am currently co-designing a Culture Capital Exchange Funded computer game to explore online sexual relationships through digital collections as part of a wider Wellcome Trust Funded project on the History of Sexology. I am also researching using women’s archives to create AI and conversational systems that empower women and explore issues of female identity and equality.
