Submission Opportunity – The JHB Archive

The JHB Archive – Open Submission Opportunity

BOM Fellow Jo Gane invites submissions for a group exhibition of emerging to mid-career artists. The exhibition will be held at BOM (Birmingham Open Media) throughout September 2015.

Selected artists will receive a fee of £300 to produce work for the exhibition. Work submitted must respond to the brief below, however the way in which work relates to the brief is left open to interpretation.

Brief:

In 1961 Nuneaton Museum purchased a sculpture by Julian Henry Beck, an artist, engineer and photographer. This sculpture has since gone missing and all that remains is the truncated accession record (see image below). Artists are invited to produce a version of this sculpture in any media based upon the information that has been recorded. This may take any form and could also be based on more ephemeral elements of the sculpture such as what it would sound or smell like. As the accession record exists as digital data, submissions that interpret the data using digital technologies and processes are particularly encouraged.

Please send the following as a single PDF to info@jogane.co.uk with the subject heading JHB Archive Submission.

  • Title the PDF Surname First name
  • 3-5 images (72dpi at 1000px maximum length) or links to previous work that give an idea of what the proposed work will be.

  • Installation requirements and dimensions
