Professional Practice with Anna Dumitriu: Making and displaying BioArt & Art/Science Projects Internationally.
Anna will discuss her experiences of making and internationally touring her solo exhibition “BioArt and Bacteria” including the health and safety and ethical issues associated with the presentation of BioArt and Biomedical Art.
Dumitriu is an internationally renowned practitioner in the field and was the 2018 President of the Science and the Arts Section of the British Science Association. She holds artist in residence posts with the Modernising Medical Microbiology Project at University of Oxford, the National Collection of Type Cultures at Public Health England, as well as research fellowships in the School of Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire, and Brighton and Sussex Medical School. She is co-author of “Trust Me, I’m an Artist” a book, and major Creative Europe funded project, exploring the ethical implications of artists in bioscientific laboratories and has created work using synthetic biology and CRISPR gene editing to explore issues around infectious diseases in many international labs including Technion in Haifa and University of California Irvine.
