*cancelled* LEAVE THE EDGES exhibition opening event

Jan 12, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

**Exhibition Preview Event Cancelled**
Gallery open from Wednesday 12 January, 11am

Due to rising Covid cases and limited capacity within the viewing space for LEAVE THE EDGES, we’ve taken the decision to cancel our preview event on 12 January. However, the gallery will be open to the public as planned from 11am on Wednesday 12 January.

Drop in to see this new immersive installation by Ghanaian born, British artist Baff Akoto. Entering a mirrored room, visitors are suspended in a stunning dreamscape where moving images weave together fragments of African spirituality and reflect dark truths of empire.

The exhibition marks the first in a series of exhibitions exploring our relationship with Commonwealth communities as we enter a milestone year for Birmingham, as our city prepares to host the Commonwealth Games.

Exhibition runs from 12 January until 30 April 2022
Gallery Open Weds – Sat 11am – 4pm.
Free entry

LEAVE THE EDGES is an immersive installation by artist and BOM Fellow; Baff Akoto. The work explores the complex ancestries of African diasporic cultural expression, inspired by spirituality and artistic practices from West Africa to the Caribbean and Europe.

It evokes dense atmospheres while interrogating historic legacies and societal politics. Crafted as a poetic, meditative dreamscape LEAVE THE EDGES probes the very nature of culture formed over generations and centuries of Africans becoming diaspora.
