POSTPONED: Open Rights Group Birmingham: Introduction to IndieWeb
December 11, 2017, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE WEATHER. WE WILL UPDATE WHEN THE EVENT IS RE-SCHEDULED.
Tired of Twitter? Fed up with Facebook? Miss the variety and quirkiness of the open web? Be the change you want to see in the world by coming to our Introduction to the IndieWeb workshop!
IndieWeb is a “people-focused alternative to the ‘corporate web’”. It provides bloggers of personal, independently-hosted blogs with a set of software utilities which allows them to control their own social data on personal web domains – as opposed to large, centralized social networking services. (For more information on IndieWeb, check out their website.)
At this session, you’ll learn about the philosophy behind IndieWeb, its benefits and the challenges it presents. You’ll also learn how to reduce your dependency on the big platforms and how to build your own independent identity on the web.
We’re thrilled to announce that Kevin Marks, organiser of IndieWeb and founder of Microformat, will be joining us for the session. We’re also hoping to welcome members of the Homebrew Website Club, a collective of creatives passionate about IndieWeb.
So come along to meet a like-minded and supportive community!
